Environmental signage is all around us. We are surrounded by environmental signage in every building we enter which can include posters in a movie theater to directories in a mall that shows store layouts and floor plans. We are experiencing a shift in the marketing industry that is moving further away from print signage and more towards digital signage. Going digital in a retail environment can be beneficial because it can increase traffic, increase advertisement revenue and reduce cost that are associated with print materials. Wayfinding systems are digital signage designed to provide interactive, easy to understand directions to a selected destination. Wayfinding systems are replacing out of date directories and are being used in places such as buildings, hotels, resorts, hospitals, airports, shopping centers and malls. Currently, most shopping centers and malls are using printed, non-interactive, hard to follow directories. Some are using digital signage but with no interactive features.
